When I choose a new supplier how long does it take before my electricity comes from the new supplier?
It depends on a couple of different factors, but when you select a new lower cost provider the switch typically occurs within 30 to 60 days. There is no interruption to your service and the physical power is still delivered the same as it always was by your EDC. The only thing that changes is the rate that you pay.
The factors that affect the switch date are:
- Your contract sign and scheduled switch date
- Your meter read date
- The amount of days between your new supplier sign date and your next schedule meter read date (Note that each EGS and EDC have a different amount of days that they each require to process the paperwork and system updates to perform the billing and accounting switch)
- Any applicable state waiting or notification periods
