How bright are LED lights?
When we perform our lighting analysis, Four Leaf Energy tailors and selects the correct wattage and lumens (brightness) LED replacement solution to ensure that your work areas are the same brightness or brighter than your old fixtures.
Historically, LEDs were indeed not as bright as some traditional high output lights, but that is not the case today. Similar to the computer industry though, this market and technology are moving exponentially each year and now they are much brighter, more efficient, and have a longer life span.
Our advanced LED lighting is actually much brighter than most lighting in use today. Part of this is from the significant technological advancements that have been made in the last few years and also because of how LED lighting actually works vs. traditional lighting. It is not uncommon for us to see increases of 20 to 30% brighter work areas after installation.
The lights aren't actually 30% brighter, but the difference is how and where that light is projected. A tube fluorescent produces light in a 360 degree fashion and much of the light is lost going "up". That's why the fixtures have a reflector and parabolic shape to them to try and recapture some of that lost light. However, LED lighting is directional light that points only where you want it (i.e. straight down in a much tighter range.) In most cases this actually results in a much brighter work area. As a result of this, we commonly down lamp where we replace a 4 bulb fluorescent fixture with only 3 of our advanced LED bulbs. This gives our customer not only the right amount of light, but also reduces their lighting energy use and costs even further.
